BUFFALO, NY – US Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) today endorsed Democrat Kim Beaty for Erie County Sheriff, pointing to Beaty’s 34 years in law enforcement and saying Kim has, “the command experience, will, and vision to end the scandals that have undermined the public’s trust in the Sheriff’s Office.”
“Kim Beaty knows law enforcement at every level, from street patrol to Deputy Commissioner of Operations and Homeland Security for New York’s second-largest city police department, and she understands that officers must not only enforce the law but also uphold its letter and spirit,” Higgins said.
“This is an individual defined by outstanding professionalism, compassion, and ability to build bridges with the people and neighborhoods she serves. Kim has expertise in training and problem solving, and a character affirmed by awards for heroism and for her devotion to public safety and community policing.
“I am excited about the kind of change Kim Beaty will bring to our Sheriff’s Office, and about the opportunity we have to elect the first woman of color as a sheriff in New York State’s history,” Higgins said.
“It is a great honor to have the endorsement of Congressman Brian Higgins, a strong voice for Western New York.” said Beaty, who is currently Director of Public Safety at Canisius College.
“My Republican opponent has been endorsed by Tim Howard and the Conservative candidate embraces his legacy as well. We simply cannot endure more deaths, more lawsuits, more of the same mismanagement for four more years.
“I am committed to bringing back integrity and leadership to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and will dedicate myself to keeping the people of Erie County safe and restoring trust between law enforcement and the community,” Beaty said.
